about

Produced by Sophie Payten (AKA Gordi), engineered and mixed by Jono Steer (Angie McMahon, Ainslie Wills), and mastered by Aria Award Nominated engineer, Becki Whitton (Alice Skye, All Day), Winning the Lottery is the first release from Rose under her own self-titled project. Rose has taken back her name, working with a dream team of musicians to create an expressive and uplifting track. “Getting to work so closely with Sophie and Jono was an incredible moment for me. They are both such lovely and wholesome humans, I’ve learnt so much from them both through this whole process.” Written in the aftermath of her first panic attack, Winning the Lottery dives listeners headfirst into the singular actions and thoughts Rose undertook as she worked to understand the upheaval taking hold of her body.

Without pulling her punches, Rose shakes loose her discomfort towards her own mental health, rejecting perfectionism in all its forms. "I wanted to capture that feeling of confusion, that moment when you understand what's happening and that surreal realisation that this is a part of who you are.

lyrics

Take a number and place it on the bed
Turn on the radio and hope the sound is clear
Offers comfort in the silence that is bare
Oh, my anchor is holding me there

It’s funny I thought I could try not to be pulled in by you
It’s funny I thought I could try not to be pulled in by you
I thought I could take it
I guess I can’t fake it no
It’s funny I thought, I thought I was winning the lottery

Take a number and place it on your heart
Didn’t your mother ever say, your dreams are about to start
Pitter patter of the rain upon your day
I can feel it slowly chattering away

It’s funny I thought I could try not to be pulled in by you
It’s funny I thought I could try not to be pulled in by you
I thought I could take it
I guess I can’t fake it no
It’s funny I thought, I thought I was winning the lottery

It’s funny I thought I could try not to be pulled in by you

It’s funny I thought I could try not to be pulled in by you
It’s funny I thought I could try not to be
I thought I could take it
I guess I can’t fake it no
It’s funny I thought, I thought I was winning the lottery
